Course Summary

Covering practical skills needed іn thе modern workplace.  Gain confidence and knowledge to deal with first aid emergencies. Highly suitable for nominated workplace first aiders, or if you need a comprehensive introduction to first aid.  The Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work is a two-unit, three-day course that will enable successful candidates to act as a first aider in their workplace in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981.

Entry requirements

  • You must have a minimum of Level 1 Literacy.

Course content

  • Unit 1: Emergency First Aid in the Workplace
  • Unit 2: Recognition and Management of Illness and Injury in the Workplace

Unit 1 covers the following topics:

  • roles and responsibilities of a first aider
  • incident and casualty assessment
  • unconscious casualties
  • cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • choking
  • external bleeding & shock
  • minor injuries

Unit 2 covers the following topics:

  • secondary survey
  • respiratory system & hypoxia
  • asthma & hyperventilation
  • circulatory system
  • wounds and bleeding extras
  • eye injuries
  • shock – different types
  • anaphylaxis
  • angina & heart attack
  • stroke
  • burns & scalds
  • poisons
  • fractures & dislocations/sprains & strains
  • head and spinal injuries
  • diabetes & epilepsy

Timings and Assessments

  • 3 days, 9.00 am – 4.30 pm
  • Tuesday 24th to Thursday 26th October 2017
  • Assessment is conducted by your trainer during the course.
  • You must demonstrate competence in first-aid procedures by practical assessments on the
    • management of a casualty:
      • who is unresponsive and breathing normally (recovery position)
      • who is unresponsive and not breathing normally (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
      • with external bleeding
      • who is in shock
    • management of fractures
  • You must also complete 2 multi-choice test papers.   
  • It is essential to bring along with you a form of photographic ID, ie. Driving licence or passport.
